    Our Response to COVID-19

Volunteer with face mask signing in at project

New Yorkers step up in times of uncertainty. It happened after 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy, and we see the same in response to COVID-19. Since our relief efforts began, more than 10,700 volunteers have devoted 32,900 hours on nearly 1,600 projects. More than 1,340,000 meals have been distributed to New Yorkers in need. We're moving in-person programs like College Access and Citizenship Prep online and are adding new virtual opportunities. Volunteers will provide academic support and recreation for students learning at home, conduct wellness calls to homebound seniors, help NYC public school students in transitional housing with access to technology, and more.

    And, we're just getting started.

What I find the most heartwarming part of this experience is that crisis tends to bring out the best of individuals. We are getting the best that humanity has to offer! There are so many new volunteers who have only just learned about New York Cares, the pantry, and truly want to contribute their time to help.
