Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I have to be a New York Cares volunteer to register for Family Day of Care?
Yes, for the safety of everyone involved, we require all participants to be registered New York Cares volunteers. Create a New York Cares account today!
- What do I need to do to register my youth volunteers?
Add them to your Family Roster and complete the steps listed upon registering. This will include a one-time waiver that will cover any New York Cares project you bring your youth volunteers to!
I'm not the parent or legal guardian of the child I'd like to bring - can I still register?
While we love the idea of you bringing a niece, grandson, godchild, or another youth volunteer along, we do require that all youth accounts be made by the legal parent or guardian. If the youth volunteer is aged 5-13, the adult accompanying them must be the legal parent or guardian that their account is associated with.
If the youth volunteer is aged 14-17, they're welcome to register on their own, and you can do so too so that you're together on your project!
- I'm a youth volunteer - can I get my volunteer hours verified for school?
Yes! You can always print out your Project History and New York Cares can also provide a signed letter of service that showcases the number of hours you’ve served and the number of projects you’ve completed. Request a letter of service here.
- Can my child volunteer without me?
Only teen volunteers (ages 14-17) can volunteer on their own on Teen Friendly projects. If a child is 5-13 years old, they need to be accompanied by the parent or guardian whom their account is associated with.
