Completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is a crucial step for low-income teens and their families to make attending college a reality. Through the FAFSA Prep Program, volunteers will help families at 50 schools and community centers throughout New York City complete their applications in time to make informed decisions about financial aid packages and college acceptances.
The program requires a five to six-week commitment from October through early December, and teams will work at a different location each week. Teams are borough-specific and meet on either on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday nights from 6-9 p.m. or on Saturdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Many of our successful Team Leaders and volunteers joined FAFSA Prep with little to no financial aid experience–reading and basic computer skills are all you need to get started. We have you covered with our comprehensive one-day training where you will be equipped with all the financial aid knowledge you will need.
