Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

Prepare Taxes for Low-Income Families

New York Cares Tax Prep

Income tax filing is required of nearly every individual or family in every community and city across the United States, but many families face new challenges each day ranging from the affordability of groceries and school supplies to the rising costs of bills and rent. Few could manage the added expense of a paid tax preparer to help find and file for each and every refund available to them. That's why New York Cares is proud to offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to provide low and moderate-income individuals and families, immigrants, non-English speakers, seniors, and self-employed individuals access to accurate, professional tax preparation services at no cost.

Increasing the accessibility of this free service to the thousands of eligible New Yorkers across the city can only be made possible with more volunteer support. That's where you come in.

Our 2020 Tax Prep program is currently running. If you're interested in becoming a Tax Prep volunteer, sign up for our general interest campaign and we will contact you in the fall when training begins for next tax season!
