Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.
Lead Volunteer Orientations
Practice public speaking by introducing thousands of new volunteers to our work.
Our Speakers Bureau members are an elite group of volunteers who share our desire to help others volunteer. Each year, our speakers maximize their impact on the community by introducing more than 17,000 volunteers to New York Cares at our orientations.
Take the challenge to build your public speaking skills, get more involved, and spread your passion for volunteerism. We count on a reliable team of enthusiastic, well-spoken Speakers Bureau members to ensure new volunteers receive a warm welcome to our community.
Any New York Cares volunteers who meet the following criteria can apply to become a speaker:
An active New York Cares Team Leader
An active volunteer with over 12 months of experience with New York Cares
Participation in more than 10 New York Cares projects
A strong commitment to volunteerism, engaging public speaking ability, effective presentation skills, and an ability to inspire others to action
Where will you lead
In addition to orientations at our office in downtown Manhattan, New York Cares holds orientations at sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City. We are in need of speakers who live or work near:
Mott Haven, Melrose, or elsewhere in the South Bronx
Forest Hills, Long Island City
Crown Heights, or Red Hook in Brooklyn
If you are a seasoned facilitator with a comfort level with technology, we are in particular need of speakers to lead our digital orientations. You must have a desktop/laptop computer (microphone and speakers) and a high speed internet connection to lead this orientation format.
