We need your support in helping NYC public high school students build their foundational skills in Math and English! The Sophomore Skills program is designed to provide intensive tutoring in math, reading and writing, which helps students excel on the SAT, Regents exams, and their core classes. This year, 160 volunteers at schools and community centers will empower over 470 students to improve their chances of getting into the college of their choice.
Join us this season as we help students get a jump-start on making their dreams a reality!
If you’ve never volunteered with the program before, come join us for a mandatory 1.5-hour tutor training at the New York Cares office before your first session.
Are you new to New York Cares? No worries! All you have to do is attend a one-hour new volunteer orientation and express your interest in Sophomore Skills to immediately get signed up for one of our trainings.
Sophomore Skills projects run weekly from March through early June on weekday evenings (from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.) and Saturdays (from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m.) at about 18 locations throughout the city. Upon completion of the training, you will have the opportunity to choose your time, day, and location. See you there.
