Volunteer with your Children
Teach your youngster about the importance of service while volunteering together on a Family Friendly project.
Looking to get your kids out of the house and onto volunteer projects? Hands on volunteering is a meaningful way to spend time together as a family and provides the perfect opportunity to teach children about the importance of civic engagement.
While most of our projects require volunteers to be ages 18+, New York Cares Family Friendly Projects are unique opportunities for oriented New York Cares volunteers to serve alongside their children or legal wards.
Start by creating a New York Cares volunteer account (as a parent or legal guardian) and attending an introductory volunteer orientation. Please note: Individuals under the age of 18, should not create a New York Cares account.
Select the “Family Friendly” option on the Filters section of the search page to find projects designated for you and your children. Project descriptions will list the appropriate age range for the child. Once registered, email your Team Leader to let him/her know you will be bringing your child. Please note: New York Cares projects are not suitable for children under the age of 6.
Print and bring a signed Family Friendly Waiver to the project and have it verified by your Team Leader. After the project, return your verified Family Friendly waiver to New York Cares using this form. Please note: Children may not participate without both a signed waiver and parent or legal guardian present.
Teens (ages 14+) are invited to volunteer on projects designated as Teen Group Friendly, if joined by a trained Teen Group Leader (age 21+). Siblings, mentors, or other chaperones can serve as Teen Group Leaders.
