Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.
Completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the CSS Profile are crucial steps for teens and their families striving to make attending college a reality despite financial challenges. Through the Financial Aid Assistance Program, volunteers help families at schools and community centers complete their financial aid applications in the fall and then evaluate the subsequent financial aid packages they receive from colleges in the spring.
The program requires a commitment to three 3-hour workshop sessions at a Community Partner site over a six-month period from early November through April. Workshop sessions may be on weeknight evenings from 6pm-9pm or on Saturdays in the late morning/early afternoon. Virtual opportunities may also be available for this program.
Many successful Team Leaders and volunteers have joined Financial Aid Assistance projects with little to no financial aid experience-reading and basic computer skills are all you need to get started. Our expert-led, comprehensive training series will equip you with all the financial aid information you will need. Upon completion of the Fall training series, you will be knowledgeable of the FSAID application process, completing the CSS Profile, and submitting the simplified FAFSA form that is new this year. Express interest by signing up and we will contact you when program opportunities and training become available.
