If the month of July had a theme, it would have to be “Summer Break.” That is, for anyone working, attending, or volunteering in schools. With that in mind, we couldn’t help but honor a Team Leader who gets a (slight) summer break from her hard work throughout the school year for our July Team Leader Spotlight.
Meet Kimberlee Gonzalez, an exceptional Team Leader who has been volunteering with New York Cares for 4 years and dedicates her Mondays and Wednesdays to lead Homework Help at PS 253 Q after-school. Kimberlee’s encouraging and welcoming attitude inspires and motivates the students to achieve their full potential. To give you a sense of Kimberlee’s presence at the school, Guidance Counselor, Alberys Walsh shares, “Students are always eager and excited to see her. In the few days that she wasn’t here, the students would constantly ask where she was and why she wasn’t here. She has a very positive impact on the students and the volunteers.”
Not only is Kimberlee always willing to go one step further in her usual responsibilities as a Team Leader to engage students in fun educational activities, but she also consistently reminds volunteers of the impact their work has on students’ lives. The pillars to great leadership!
Before leading projects at PS 253 Q, Kimberlee served as a Co-Team Leader for the Saturday Concert Isabella Geriatric Center, a project focused on bringing socialization activities to seniors. On top of that, Kimberlee recently joined our Summer Volunteer Corps, an elite group of experienced volunteers who work alongside New York Cares staff to lead groups of corporate volunteers in the summer months. There are just a few of the ways Kimberlee spends her “summer break.” Thank you, Kimberlee for making “service” your theme for the month of July!
