New York Cares Lead Volunteer Orientations Welcome New Volunteers

Our Speakers Bureau members are an elite group of volunteers who share our desire to help others volunteer. Each year, our speakers maximize their impact on the community by introducing more than 17,000 volunteers to New York Cares at our orientations.

Take the challenge to build your public speaking skills, get more involved, and spread your passion for volunteerism. We count on a reliable team of enthusiastic, well-spoken Speakers Bureau members to ensure new volunteers receive a warm welcome to our community.

Qualifications

Any New York Cares volunteers who meet the following criteria can apply to become a speaker:

  • An active New York Cares Team Leader
  • An active volunteer with over 12 months of experience with New York Cares
  • Participation in more than 10 New York Cares projects
  • A strong commitment to volunteerism, engaging public speaking ability, effective presentation skills, and an ability to inspire others to action

Where you will lead

In addition to orientations at our office in downtown Manhattan, New York Cares holds orientations at sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City. We are in particular need of speakers who live or work near:

  • Mott Haven, Melrose, or elsewhere in the South Bronx
  • Elmhurst, Corona, or the Rockaways in Queens
  • Bushwick, East New York, Coney Island, Crown Heights, or Red Hook in Brooklyn
  • Staten Island

How to Apply

  1. Complete our Speakers Bureau Application.
  2. Applications are reviewed on a semi-annual basis.
  3. If your application is accepted, you will be invited to attend an interview with New York Cares staff.
  4. Pending your interview, come to our office for an in-person 1½ hour long training.
  5. Attend at least two additional orientation to observe a trained speaker.
  6. Lead an orientation under staff supervision for evaluation of acceptance.
