Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

Because of the heat advisory for this weekend issued by NYC Emergency Management and the Health Department, select programming that may pose a risk to our volunteers and clients has been cancelled. Projects with partners who provide critical services will take place, but we encourage our volunteers to follow safety tips including drinking plenty of water and staying inside/out of the sun when possible. Please check your email for information on the status of specific projects. Thank you!

Volunteer Orientation at the Williamsburg Library Branch

Volunteer Orientation at the Williamsburg Library Branch

The only thing standing between you and making a difference in New York City is this simple yet integral step in your volunteer journey – your introductory orientation.

At orientation, you’ll meet face to face with fellow new folks, as well as a seasoned leader, who will share what you can expect as a volunteer with New York Cares. We’ll cover things like: how New York Cares helps hundreds of nonprofits meet their missions each year, where to go on the website to find your next project, what benefits come with volunteering, and why our policies make for a great volunteer experience.

Since 1987, New York Cares has been our city's premier volunteering organization. We create opportunities for tens of thousands of busy New Yorkers to give their time each year through fulfilling, flexibly-scheduled volunteer projects. New York Cares responds to our city's most acute needs by reaching out to social service agencies, schools, homeless shelters, and other deserving organizations, and mobilizing teams of volunteers to help with their work. Volunteers tutor children, feed the hungry, assist people living with HIV/AIDS, revitalize community gardens, and much more.
