Because of the heat advisory for this weekend issued by NYC Emergency Management and the Health Department, select programming that may pose a risk to our volunteers and clients has been cancelled. Projects with partners who provide critical services will take place, but we encourage our volunteers to follow safety tips including drinking plenty of water and staying inside/out of the sun when possible. Uptown Stories, a federally approved non-profit creative writing program, creates an exciting, challenging and supportive community in which young authors thrive in Washington Heights. The organization offers small-group writing workshops for children ages eight to fifteen, which inspires kids to discover and develop their inner voices in a diverse community of writers who led by master teachers and professional authors.
They are currently seeking volunteers to work as social media editors. Volunteers will strategically use Twitter and Instagram to help the organization disseminate information, build engagement, and facilitate action. And volunteers will also assist with planning and implementing a weekly/monthly social media content calendar, composing tweets and Instagram posts, engaging with and expanding their following. The purpose is to help them grow relationships with writers, authors, and communicate their mission in a positive, authentic way.
