Because of the heat advisory for this weekend issued by NYC Emergency Management and the Health Department, select programming that may pose a risk to our volunteers and clients has been cancelled. Projects with partners who provide critical services will take place, but we encourage our volunteers to follow safety tips including drinking plenty of water and staying inside/out of the sun when possible. Saturday English and Language Arts Tutoring at MS 319 M

Help 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students prepare for their ELA state exams by practicing reading comprehension and writing exercises. Mini lessons and problem sets are provided by the school each week and volunteers receive an overview of the topics covered during the first half hour of each session. Volunteers are encouraged to attend this project weekly.

MS 319 is a middle school serving 575 6th-8th graders in Washington Heights. MS 319 prepares students for academic excellence through a rigorous high school preparatory curriculum founded in the applied learning of math, science, and language arts. Grounded in a philosophy of addressing the whole child, MS 319 serves as a community fixture; as a symbol that members of the community are proud of and that assures that their children will succeed. 86 % of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
