Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

Saturday Concert at Isabella Geriatric Center

Saturday Concert at Isabella Geriatric Center

Volunteers are needed to assist residents that use wheelchairs to and from their residence floors for a special live performance in the recreation hall.

This is a family friendly project. Oriented New York Cares volunteers can bring up to two children or legal wards, between the ages of 14 and 17, as long as the parent volunteer has a signed waiver and accompany the child at all times during the project. The volunteer team leader can provide additional information, or see FAQs here:

Isabella Geriatric Center, founded in 1875, has grown from a traditional nursing home to a leading healthcare organization providing a continuum of services on its own campus and in the community at large. When Anna and Oswald Ottendorfer opened the first home, they named it in honor of their daughter, Isabella Uhl, whose early death at the age of 27 cut short her remarkable career in caring for the poor. Initially located in Astoria, Queens, Isabella was dedicated to the care of indigent elderly women. Isabella moved to its present location in 1889 and simultaneously expanded its mission to care for both women and men- without regard to race, creed or nationality.
