Rowing Assistance with Row New York

Rowing Assistance with Row New York

**5 week commitment required**

Motivate rowers with physical disabilities! Volunteers will assist at Row New York's recreational adaptive physical program which requires lifting, and assisting rowers in and out of the boats. Volunteers will also help the row coaches take out and put back the rowing/exercising equipment while motivating rowers during the project.

Row New York is a non-profit dedicated to bringing competitive rowing, academic enrichment, and self-esteem building programming to under-served children and adults. Rowing experience is not required.

**Note: A mandatory training session will precede the project on the first day. The training will be from 11:00am - 1130am, and the project will be at 11:30am - 1:15pm. In this training and first project, volunteers will learn about the basics of rowing and the rowers they will be working with. All volunteers must commit to the program for the 5 week duration.

Committed Project Date Range:

Sept 14, 21, 28; October 5, 12

New Volunteer Friendly

Row New York began in 2002 with the simple idea that competitive rowing paired with rigorous academic support for underserved youth could change the trajectory of their teen years and beyond. They have since taught thousands of young people the sport of rowing, and through it the values of tenacity, focus, teamwork, and confidence. Their year-round intensive program serves 230 middle schoolers and high schoolers, with more than 2,200 across all their programs, including PE classes in public middle schools, summer camps, para-rowing for athletes with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, and programs for adults: fitness classes, learn-to-row sessions, training at both recreational and competitive levels, and corporate team-building days.
