Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

Because of the heat advisory for this weekend issued by NYC Emergency Management and the Health Department, select programming that may pose a risk to our volunteers and clients has been cancelled. Projects with partners who provide critical services will take place, but we encourage our volunteers to follow safety tips including drinking plenty of water and staying inside/out of the sun when possible. Foster a love of learning by reading with children ages 6-16, in small groups or in one-on-one pairs in order to make books and reading a fun and enriching part of their lives. Each session will conclude with themed craft activity.

Fordham Bedford Community Service (FBCS) was founded in 1994 and is located in the Fordham-Bedford and West Burnside neighborhoods. FBCS provides quality low-income housing in combination with supportive social services to preserve families and nurture the healthy development of children. Youth activities include tutoring, an early literacy project, basketball leagues, chess clubs, teen groups, movie nights, and field trips around NYC.
