Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

Plant at Jenny's Garden

Plant at Jenny's Garden

Jenny's Garden is a family friendly, hands on gardening experience that takes place rain or shine. Come out to help plant and weed in one of Upper Manhattan’s most beautiful green spaces. Not to worry, first time gardeners are welcome!

This is a family friendly project. Oriented New York Cares volunteers can bring their children or legal wards, between the ages of 12 and 17, as long as youth volunteers have a signed waiver and are accompanied by their legal guardian at all times. The volunteer team leader can provide additional information.

Family Friendly

GreenThumb provides programming and material support to over 500 community gardens in New York City and was initiated in response to the city’s financial crisis of the 1970s, which resulted in the abandonment of public and private land. The majority of GreenThumb gardens were derelict vacant lots renovated by volunteers and their gardens are located in all five boroughs in the city. Some are green spaces meant for relaxation and as a community meeting space, others are full–fledged farms, and many are a mix of the types.
