Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

Because of the heat advisory for this weekend issued by NYC Emergency Management and the Health Department, select programming that may pose a risk to our volunteers and clients has been cancelled. Projects with partners who provide critical services will take place, but we encourage our volunteers to follow safety tips including drinking plenty of water and staying inside/out of the sun when possible. Pantry Service with Xavier Mission at The Church of St. Francis Xavier

Assist with set-up, registration, distribution and clean-up at St. Francis Xavier's Client-Choice Food Pantry. The monthly service provides food for over 150 families in need. Bilingual volunteers welcome (Spanish and Chinese speaking)!

Volunteers should:
• be older than 14
• be able to work on their feet for the duration of the project (3 hours)
• be able to handle medium to heavy lifting (20-30 lbs)
• be prepared to engage directly with clients


The Xavier Mission is the community outreach arm of the St. Francis Xavier Church and is located in Chelsea. St. Francis Mission has a long history of service to those in need and seeks to welcome , serve and empower those in our New York City community who are in need of human and material support. The Xavier Mission meets pressing needs by providing food, clothing, shelter and life-skills training, and is guided by the Jesuit principle of advocating social justice. New York Cares volunteers help prepare and serve meals at The Welcome Table to an average of 725 guests each Sunday.
