Gardening at Kelly Street Garden

Gardening at Kelly Street Garden

Kelly Street Garden's mission has always been propelled by the desire to promote food and economic justice in the South Bronx.

They are currently seeking volunteers to assist them on a number of tasks, including planting and harvesting, caring for and maintaining healthy soil, composting, and participating in their summer farm stand. Hours are flexible based on volunteer availability, and ideally volunteers would start by April 21. No special skills are required, as they work and learn from each other at the garden.

The Kelly Street Garden, located in the Longwood neighborhood of the Bronx, is a community garden with 2,500 square feet of growing space built behind four apartment buildings in the South Bronx that were rehabilitated in 2014. The mission of the garden is to grow food and community in order to build a multi-generational movement for change. An all-volunteer group of women of color runs the garden and its related education programs with guidance from an on-site Garden Manager who has urban farming expertise.
