Deliver a Winter Care Package & Make a Friendly Phone Call

DOROT's mission is to address social isolation and loneliness among older adults and promote intergenerational connections.

WHAT: Volunteers will participate in Winter Package Delivery. This involves picking up a care package at one of two locations, delivering the package to the home of an older adult and making a 20-30 minute friendly call later on that same day. COVID protocols have been followed to make this a safe event.

WHEN:
Sunday, January 30, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Monday, January 31, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Volunteers sign up for a 20-minute timeslot for pick up. Total time commitment including check in/package pick up, travel to the older adult's home and the friendly call is approximately 1.5 hours.

WHERE: There are two pick up locations; both in Manhattan:
1) DOROT at 171 West 85th Street (between Columbus and Amsterdam Aves.)
2) Moise Safra Center at 130 East 82nd Street (between Park and Lexington Aves.).
Older adults live on the West and East Sides of Manhattan.

DOROT’s mission is to alleviate social isolation among the elderly and provides services to help them live independently as valued members of the community. Some programs offered are: friendly visiting, reading assistance for visually impaired, shopping assistance, English language assistance, and others.
