Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

Because of the heat advisory for this weekend issued by NYC Emergency Management and the Health Department, select programming that may pose a risk to our volunteers and clients has been cancelled. Projects with partners who provide critical services will take place, but we encourage our volunteers to follow safety tips including drinking plenty of water and staying inside/out of the sun when possible. Please check your email for information on the status of specific projects. Thank you!

Citizenship through English at Long Island City Adult Learning Center

Becoming a US citizen is one of the most challenging, but rewarding processes that New Americans face. Be a part of a new citizens' story by helping them prepare for the test. Converse with adult immigrants in small groups. Help them improve their understanding of spoken and written English. Talk about the history of the United States, the function of our government, our geography, and similar topics. Practice reading and writing from a civics vocabulary list.

No bilingual ability necessary, but Bengali or Spanish would help. This is a commitment for the following Saturdays:
November 5, 12, 19
December 3, 10, 17
