In the Fall New York Cares is ready to launch two projects for elementary school students (mainly 3rd graders-5th graders) with literacy and empowering them to know more than class education. Please read the description for ELL and SEL to decide if you'd like to know more.

Language Literacy with ELL is a program about inspiring the imagination and fostering a love of reading with English language learning students. Volunteers will be working with students in small groups to help strengthen their ELL literacy and fundamental reading skills. Spanish bilingual volunteers highly recommended.

Learn and Practice SEL is a program meant to engage students in their journey to become better, more productive, self-aware, and socially-aware citizens outside of the classroom in the years ahead. Work with students in small groups to increase their competence in core social-emotional learning skills such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.

New York Cares responds to our city's most pressing by working with social service agencies, schools, homeless shelters, and other deserving organizations to mobilize teams of volunteers to support their work. Volunteers tutor children, work in food pantries and soup kitchens, provide free tax preparation, revitalize parks and gardens, and much more.
