Build Literacy Kits and Help Facilitate a Racial Justice Literacy Program

Start Lighthouse fosters lifelong literacy through a two-generational approach. They create access through customized literacy kits, programming with a racial justice lens, and community workshops for family members and caregivers.

WHAT: Volunteers are needed to help with two projects:

Start Lighthouse creates and distributes customized literacy kits for students in grades K-8. These kits include brand new culturally responsive books, bilingual comprehension guides, and reflective activities that tailor to the books included. Volunteers would need to be available on weekends to support building these kits.

Additionally, Start Lighthouse runs a virtual racial justice literacy program for students. Volunteers would serve as facilitators for our program. This program is run year-round, and volunteers would need to commit to a minimum of 4 sessions (4 hours).
