Be a Friend Opportunity at Helping Hands for the Disabled of NYC

Helping Hands for the Disabled of NYC helps disabled persons remain independent in their own homes and communities.

They are currently seeking volunteers to participate in their "Be a Friend" opportunity. Volunteers are needed to "Be a Friend" to a disabled adult 1 day a week for 2 to 3 hours. Volunteers will work from the person's home. Tasks will include reading mail, shopping, running errands, taking walks, etc.

Helping Hands for the Disabled of NYC primarily works with persons who are 18 years or older who are blind. While they work with and serve persons of all disabilities, their primary focus group serves people who are blind. Their programs include a food pantry, an action line, a social program for disabled adults (movie night, restaurant club, trips), buddy programs, and a volunteer system of people who are willing to take persons to doctor's appointments or other 9-5 errands.
