Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

Because of the heat advisory for this weekend issued by NYC Emergency Management and the Health Department, select programming that may pose a risk to our volunteers and clients has been cancelled. Projects with partners who provide critical services will take place, but we encourage our volunteers to follow safety tips including drinking plenty of water and staying inside/out of the sun when possible. Please check your email for information on the status of specific projects. Thank you!

Our New York Cares team will work alongside City Harvest volunteers in a greenmarket setting to sort, bag, and distribute 15-18,000 lbs of fresh produce to hundreds of families in need. Please dress accordingly and wear sturdy shoes. All projects are rain or shine!

Volunteers should be prepared to work on their feet for the duration of the project (3 hours)

City Harvest pioneered food rescue in 1982. Today, more than 1 million New Yorkers are struggling to put meals on their tables. City Harvest will collect 59 million pounds of excess food this year and deliver it free of charge to 500 soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programs across the five boroughs. To date, City Harvest has rescued and delivered over 600 million pounds of nutritious food for hungry New Yorkers.
