Art Day with New York Edge

The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among underserved students by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, character and attitudes for success in life.

WHAT: Art Day is part of the Girl Redesigned educational series for New York Edge students designed to empower and build self-confidence. Students participate in a day of workshops around fashion & design, music, dance, step, theater arts, and spoken word. The objective is to connect self-expression to leadership, social awareness, and technology. Students will discover how art has the power to transform our views of self and community. Throughout the day students work with master arts educators and they will have the opportunity to use artistic expression and teamwork to explore creative solutions to the day's fun challenges. Volunteers will assist with setup and breakdown, giveaways, act as a timekeeper for classes, be a liaison between teachers and Art staff, snack/lunch handout.

WHEN: Onetime commitment Starting; 11-11-2019. Shifts; 8am -12pm & 11:30am -4pm.

New York Edge, previously Sports and Art in Schools Foundation, helps bridge the academic performance gap among under-achieving students by extending the school day and year with wholesome, skill-building activities designed to improve New York City children’s academic performance, health and wellness, attitude towards school, self-confidence, character and values, and opportunity for lifelong employment. They serve more than 20,000 students in over 150 public schools, and all of their programs are provided free of charge.
