Officer, Children’s Education Programs

Reporting to the Director of Education and Family Programs, the Children’s Education Program Officer serves as a senior member of the staff team that coordinates, develops, manages and evaluates a portfolio of New York Cares’ volunteer programs related to children’s education and wellbeing. The Officer develops and executes strategies to engage partners, clients, and volunteers through impactful service programs to improve educational outcomes throughout the five boroughs. The Officer role has four core pillars around which it’s day-to-day accountability are built:(1) In collaboration with the Director, Education & Family Programs the Officer provides strategic direction and sets clear, ambitious, and culturally responsive goals for managers’ project planning and execution, holds them accountable for exceeding those goals, and coaches and supports each team member to realize their full potential.(2) The Officer builds, maintains, and enriches New York Cares’ relationships with community partner organizations, including schools, community centers, and social service agencies.(3) The Officer works with and alongside the Corporate Relations and Volunteer Relations Teams to develop and implement strategic initiatives to engage individuals, corporations and civic groups in meaningful volunteer service, and helps plan and staff projects during surge times on an as-needed basis.(4) The Officer supports department members, collaborates with members of other departments, and assists the Director with department administration, and serve on cross-functional committees within New York Cares to help drive organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  •  Manage a team of direct reports, including full-time, part-time, seasonal, and intern staff
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key partner agencies and corporate sponsors
  • Stay informed on local and national policies and trends in the educational space
  • Supporting department members to develop curricula or program resources for new and existing children’s education programs
  • Develop best practices for project planning and execution and train/onboard new team members
  •  Conduct community outreach to identify new partner agencies for specific program areas
  • Spearheading evaluation across the department to ensure consistent and reliable feedback
  •  Providing development opportunities for volunteers and community partners
  •  Coordinating outreach to identify ways to engage community partner agencies for specific program areas
  •  Serve as department liaison for inter-departmental committees
  •  Represent New York Cares to funders and external audiences
  •  Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of three years’ work experience in non-profit management
  • Subject matter expertise in working with youth
  • Demonstrated commitment to community service and volunteerism
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Proficient with Word and Excel programs as well as Salesforce database system
  • Familiarity with the New York City community organizations, including schools, nonprofits, and social service agencies

Salary

Starting salary is low 50s. We provide excellent benefits including comprehensive health insurance, 403(b) employer matching contributions, life insurance, and ample paid time off
