Position Overview

Our Communications team is looking for a creative and dynamic Design Intern who can work in a fast-paced environment and support our team’s mission to build awareness and increase engagement with our audiences including volunteers and donors. The ideal candidate has experience with both print production and design for social media and the web. Reporting to the Creative Lead, the Design Intern will work alongside the Marketing & Communications team to create graphics and design that excites our stakeholders. They will work in a supportive environment and help develop compelling visual communications for print and web that clearly speak to our target audiences and build a consistent brand. From creating presentations and social media posts to developing email templates to event design, office decor and much more, this position will help tell the story of New York Cares through visual communications. They will learn about working in a team and experience the marketing and communications operations of a citywide nonprofit.


  • Develop creative content alongside our Marketing & Communications team
  • Participate in brand marketing strategy and visual identity development
  • Updating and maintaining templates for MailChimp, Microsoft Word, etc.
  • Creating pitch decks for our Development (fundraising) department
  • Designing and ordering stationery
  • Designing signs, invitations, and other branded materials for fundraising events
  • Work on office beautification projects
  • Other duties as assigned


  • A can-do attitude and willingness to adapt to changing timelines and project requirements.
  • Love designing across all media (print, digital, physical)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to balance taking direction and taking initiative
  • An understanding of a variety of social media platforms and how to design for them
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage many projects simultaneously
  • Professional and positive demeanor, both in-person and over the phone
  • Video editing, MailChimp, Drupal, and HTML/CSS experience/skills a plus

This is an unpaid internship. 15–20 hours a week for three months, starting mid-August. The schedule is flexible and volunteer/academic credit is offered. This position is remote, the applicants need access to their own computer and have internet access.
