Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

Because of the heat advisory for this weekend issued by NYC Emergency Management and the Health Department, select programming that may pose a risk to our volunteers and clients has been cancelled. Projects with partners who provide critical services will take place, but we encourage our volunteers to follow safety tips including drinking plenty of water and staying inside/out of the sun when possible. Please check your email for information on the status of specific projects. Thank you!

Meeting Immediate Needs

New York Cares' Immediate Needs programs are designed to bring companionship, dignity, and financial stability to New Yorkers facing isolation and hardships. Our Immediate Needs programming is primarily focused on addressing hunger and homelessness and enhancing the lives of senior citizens. We believe that food, shelter, and human connection are fundamental rights and that age, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, or any other factor should not be obstacles to accessing vital services. See below for a selection of our Immediate Needs projects! For a full list of upcoming projects, go to our search page
