The New York Cares community mourns the passing of David Buckel. Over the past five years working at New York Cares’ steadfast Community Partner, Added Value’s Red Hook Community Farm - David has served on hundreds of volunteer projects and facilitated tens of thousands of hours of volunteer service. David lived a life dedicated to selfless service to others. From his advocacy for the LGBTQ community to his hands-on work at Red Hook Community Farm, David has left a lasting impact on our community.
In memory of David, we look forward to many more years of partnership with Red Hook Community Farm, the largest community compost site in the United States that runs entirely on renewable resources (sun, wind, and human power). The program diverts tons of organic material each month from landfills and uses it to create soil that will help grow much-needed healthful food for the community. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues at this most difficult time.
