"These coats have been a life-saving gift for undocumented homeless clients sleeping outside without winter weather clothes."
– Reverend Karen Jackson, Project Hospitality
31st Annual Coat Drive
In response to increases in the number of homeless students in NYC Public Schools, New York Cares ensured NYC Community School students and families received 10,000 of the coats distributed this winter. Through initiatives and events including our Pop-Up Shop, coat collections with the New York Giants and the New York Mets, a Christmas Eve coat distribution at GHMC, and more, we continued the proud tradition of the Coat Drive. We're deeply grateful for the participation and engagement we received from individuals and businesses at our events, coat sorting projects, on social media, and in the press!
Countless Acts of Warmth
Longstanding partners, Bloomberg, KKR, and Evercore again paved the way as coat drive champions, allowing us to purchase more coats! In total, funds raised by mobile giving, companies and key sponsors secured the purchase of more than 52,000 coats.
Working hard behind the scenes are trusted partners offering in-kind support year after year. Vornado Realty Trust provided warehouse space and Rudin provided our Pop-Up space. True champions from the inside out.
Core to the Coat Drive operation is a community of caring New Yorkers dedicating their time and talents - whether they were sorting coats at our warehouse, running private collections, or acting as event ambassadors, they are present every step of the way.
Nearly 650 partners comprised of nonprofit social service agencies, public schools, religious institutions, and transitional housing shelters received nearly 95,000 warm winter coats to distribute to our city’s most vulnerable populations.
The Coat Drive runs on the generosity of hundreds of coat collectors. Thanks to the NYPD and the Greater New York Auto Dealers Association (GNYADA) for serving as public collection sites. Leading the way among large private collections: Halstead (over 4,000 coats) and New York Mets, Sunshine Sachs, Manhattan Mini Storage, the New York Giants, and Bloomberg who collected a combined 4,500 plus coats!
