Who knows what might spark the next performing arts maestro, technology innovator, or global ambassador? With my recurring monthly gift, I hope to provide the means to bestow upon New York City youth the gift my parents bestowed upon me: imagining the impossible as possible.
Equal access to opportunity and a level playing field—two things that I believe every child deserves. Education offers an equalizer that can enable young minds to discover new ideas and shape their journey toward adulthood and life as a successful community member. I was blessed with parents that invested in my education and helped create the pathway for a young woman from rural Washington state to move to New York City in pursuit of her dreams of an Ivy League education and career in the Northeast. My parents instilled a generosity of spirit and commitment of giving back to help others, and as I transitioned into a new life and community, I wanted to find ways to give back.
As a student at Barnard College, I participated in the America Reads program and worked with a sixth-grade class at a public school in Harlem. Working with those children remains one of the most impactful experiences of my collegiate career and something I carry with me today. During my 20 years as a “New Yorker”, I’ve attempted to find outlets where I can make a tangible impact and replicate some of the experiences I benefitted from in the community where I grew up. As my career continues to evolve, it remains more important to me than ever to help provide mentorship and educational opportunities for advancement—particularly for at-risk and underserved populations—which is why I am a staunch advocate and supporter of New York Cares and the work the organization does in the five boroughs.
As a monthly donor for New York Cares, I provide funding allocated to educational opportunities for the students of New York City public schools, so they have access to arts programming, STEM initiatives, health and wellness practices, collegiate prep courses, and myriad other programming opportunities to foster the pathways of success. Who knows what might spark the next performing arts maestro, technology innovator, or global ambassador? With my recurring monthly gift, I hope to provide the means to bestow upon New York City youth the gift my parents bestowed upon me: imagining the impossible as possible.
