New York Cares Day 2011 School Application

On October 15th, New York Cares will bring thousands of New York volunteers together to achieve one shared goal – the revitalization of more than 100 New York City public schools. As the city's largest day of volunteer service, New York Cares Day fulfills a vital need citywide by supporting those schools who need it the most.

School registration for New York Cares Day 2011 is now closed. Thank you for your interest.

Once we have fully reviewed your completed application, we will follow-up with a phone call to set up a site visit, where New York Cares staff will assess your school's needs. Please note that applications must be signed electronically by the school's principal, and incomplete forms may delay processing and consideration.

Public Relations Information

Every year, New York Cares highlights the work that will be completed on New York Cares Day through press releases and media activity. The following questions will help guide us in this process.

1. Please describe how our volunteers' work will help your school and the community you serve. How will the work completed on New York Cares Day make an impact for teachers and parents? *

2. Will you dedicate any murals, gardens, etc. to teachers, students or other community members? Do the topics of the murals have any other significance *

3. Is your school willing to participate in PR? If yes, who is the contact person and what is the process for approval of PR requests? *

4. Does your school have stories of unique historical significance that you want to highlight? *
5. Did any famous business people, politicians, entertainers, athletes, etc. attend this school? Are they still involved with the school? *

Part 5: Guidelines and Expectations

New York Cares is committed to building strong and successful projects in collaboration with our New York Cares Day schools. We are dedicated to providing quality service experiences for our volunteers, while improving the schools that we serve. To do this successfully, we have found that New York Cares, your school and our volunteers must work together. To achieve the best results, we look forward to working closely with you and your staff to ensure the following:

The availability of the Principal or designated staff member for at least two on-site visits by the New York Cares staff and our volunteers. The first site visit will occur in Spring or Summer; the second site visit will most likely occur in September. *
The presence, on site, of the Principal and/or designee, as well as a Custodian, for the duration of the day on October 15th. *
Consistent communication with the New York Cares staff and our volunteers. *
Consistent communication between the Principal and school Custodian. *
The ability of two representatives from your school to pick up all New York Cares Day-related supplies from the Department of Education warehouse in Long Island City by October 5th. *

Part 6: Principal Approval
I understand that my participation in New York Cares Day is a partnership between my school, New York Cares and the New York Cares volunteers. I have read the attached letter, I have read and understand Part 5 of this application, and I understand that this is an application to be considered for inclusion as a project site for New York Cares Day on October 15th, 2011. *
