Community Outreach Manager
Reporting to the Director of Volunteer Relations, the Community Outreach Manager is responsible for working alongside the Volunteer Relations Manager and Assistant to grow our presence in the outer boroughs, as well as implementing creative strategies for engaging a diverse group of volunteers in service.
Responsibilities:
Developing and executing community outreach strategies to recruit and engage a diverse population in volunteer service with New York Cares. Areas of diversification include age, ethnicity, gender and neighborhood of residence.
Starting, scheduling and leading volunteer orientations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island
Providing e-mail and telephone support for all volunteers
Compiling and editing weekly communications to target volunteers
Completing data entry and tracking relating to outreach activities
Communicating with volunteers via phone to solicit feedback and offer support
Researching statistics that support the need of New York Cares' work
Planning and managing projects related to expansion / volunteer diversification
Managing borough specific volunteer councils meetings
Planning recognition events in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx for volunteers
Planning educational workshops for volunteers
Assist the Leadership Development Managers in outreach to outer borough Volunteer Leaders
Assist the Volunteer Relations Manager in recruiting, training and supporting Volunteer Orientation Leaders
Creating monthly press releases and other materials to promote orientations and projects to press contacts in the outer-boroughs
Attending volunteer recruitment events including volunteer fairs at corporations, universities, and summer street fairs
Other duties as assigned
In addition, the Community Outreach Manager will be involved on an as-needed basis in organization-wide initiatives such as Annual Days of Service, Special Events, and Corporate Service Projects.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
Spanish speaking highly preferred
Background in Community Organizing
Knowledge of outer borough neighborhoods a plus
Excellent organizational and administrative skills with an acute eye for detail
Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member
Effective presentation skills
Superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Professional demeanor, both in person and on the telephone
Flexibility and the ability to manage many projects simultaneously
A flexible schedule, including the ability to work evenings and occasional weekends, as needed
Computer literacy (Macintosh, Microsoft Word, Excel, and database experience)
Commitment to volunteerism
Experience working with diverse communities
Creativity and energy to follow through with innovative outreach strategies
Salary and Program Hours:
Mid-$30K, commensurate with experience.
